<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; text-align: justify;"><u style="text-underline: double;"><span style="color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-family: +mn-cs; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold; mso-fareast-font-family: +mn-ea; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt;">IN WHAT WAY DOES YOUR MEDIA PROJECT USE, DEVELOP OR CHALLENGE FORMS AND CONVENTIONS OF REAL MEDIA PRODUCTS?</span></u></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="line-height: normal; margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; mso-margin-bottom-alt: auto; mso-margin-top-alt: auto; text-align: justify;"><span style="color: white; font-family: inherit; font-size: 12pt; mso-bidi-font-family: +mn-cs; mso-bidi-font-weight: bold; mso-fareast-font-family: +mn-ea; mso-fareast-language: EN-GB; mso-font-kerning: 12.0pt;">We have tried to stick to the accepted conventions of a real zombie film. We researched it and found that while George A. Romero’s rules of how he believed a zombie film should be, they are being outdated by the new generation of zombies. During the refilm, we started by sticking to the old school way of doing it – shuffling, brain dead corpses who really aren’t that much of a threat until you were surrounded. These zombies were native to the serious, terrifying style of zombie thriller. It wasn’t until we were half way through filming our second draft before we realised that this was exactly not what we were trying to make. So we switched to the other style of zombie. The new generation. They are fast and require a lot more fighting on the humans behalf and go hand in hand with the comedy zombie films such as Zombieland. So we decided to adopt and make use this convention of zombie film as we have stated repeatedly throughout the process that we want it to be funny. </span></div><span style="font-family: inherit;">For this question, when I talk about George A. Romero's conventions of a traditional zombie film I will show a clip of the zombies from Day of the Dead: </span><br />
[insert clip]<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;"><br />
And again, when I talk about Zombieland, I will show a clip as an example of the new generation zombies featured in Zombieland:</span><br />
[insert clip]<br />
<span style="font-family: inherit;">When I talk about our versions, I will show an example of traditional zombies in our first draft and new generation zombies in our second draft:</span><br />

We also used audacity for the voice over bits, the last time we had used this was at least three years ago so it took us a while to get to know it again. While using this, we learnt that you need to be very close to the microphone to get any kind of noise and also that it is better to make the noise loud in the first place than have it quieter and make it louder because it distorts much quicker as you turn the volume up. We also learnt that there is a very noticably difference between high definition and standard definition, which is apparent when you look at the quality of the first draft of our film and the second. </span></div><br />
For this question, I will show screen prints of each piece of software I talk about, sometimes in context of my blog:<br />

These only have to be completed once between the group and they can be presented using any form of technology, be it a jing, a prezi or a little film. The examiners would prefer us to use more than one type of media and in my opinion, the best way to do it would be to use a type of media that doesn't require explaining to the class, soemthing that speaks for itself.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Keeping this in mind, my group and I have decided to answer each question in person in front of a green screen which we will change post production to be our film with our blogs coming up when we need to explain something. This means that we have prerecorded us speaking and it will not need to be said again when showing the class. The end product, we hope, will be something like a weather reporter talking in front of a map, or a sign language translater in front of a television programme. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6-pA8FKo4jmLsli0OZ4tbgLleeZnVq52WAcnK1-OECgt5uHzwPbrTXyHYUfOrNLrVI8-P2_b4btthVj_1whbqTvqPPhG5oXYxoDLHFVWofErRuxqsR5-HrgvE3mI3LdkpU7GBLTxDCCXZ/s1600/weather+reporter.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img aea="true" border="0" height="156" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi6-pA8FKo4jmLsli0OZ4tbgLleeZnVq52WAcnK1-OECgt5uHzwPbrTXyHYUfOrNLrVI8-P2_b4btthVj_1whbqTvqPPhG5oXYxoDLHFVWofErRuxqsR5-HrgvE3mI3LdkpU7GBLTxDCCXZ/s200/weather+reporter.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">Here is an example of an evaluation from last year who have let it speak for them rather than explaining it in front of the class: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubhs_TwgtpY">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ubhs_TwgtpY</a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

<br />
We decided that in order to fit in all of our filming and a fair amount of editing we would start early, at 11 o'clock.<br />
<br />
We had 4 outside actors as well as Ernie and Tas who were two of the zombies. The other actors were:<br />
<ul><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia8V4Awy1p43n-m-MM_iHEf-t2YX0mUy_2YbdRv5yiPkE7BrKdTmBrEXviOOAy5Otff3xQE1wZKvftzZQWFaZVyp_w_3tUpvfkb_af-ctfk5UakdD6BTESqLju1BxMkfUeWEIvXlaSvpks/s1600/richard.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEia8V4Awy1p43n-m-MM_iHEf-t2YX0mUy_2YbdRv5yiPkE7BrKdTmBrEXviOOAy5Otff3xQE1wZKvftzZQWFaZVyp_w_3tUpvfkb_af-ctfk5UakdD6BTESqLju1BxMkfUeWEIvXlaSvpks/s320/richard.jpg" width="320" /></a>
<li>Alec Cook - a human survivor who died at the end</li>
<li>Richard Baron - a human survivor who lived</li>
<li>Micaela Fernandes - a zombie</li>
<li>Jonny Kruip - a zombie who died</li>
</ul>In total it took about an hour and half to do all of the makeup. We decided to add more to the humans this time as in the last one, they seemed a little un-phased by the zombie apocalypse. This time we added dirt, blood and bandages to them.<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigvS2XRvhzJi5EsmWzZNJKkGpS1U-2e9bZxuV9LUZRNnCnUibP23WWPOa4yxeKqaac7ePCjfvsKPd4oPmUT5Lzbo3Kk9nJY_zPuG0_NGz7Yv0K_BQrvl6VjuNT-31kdoK2wqbkL5BJwVzJ/s1600/makeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEigvS2XRvhzJi5EsmWzZNJKkGpS1U-2e9bZxuV9LUZRNnCnUibP23WWPOa4yxeKqaac7ePCjfvsKPd4oPmUT5Lzbo3Kk9nJY_zPuG0_NGz7Yv0K_BQrvl6VjuNT-31kdoK2wqbkL5BJwVzJ/s320/makeup.jpg" width="320" /></a>For the zombies, we decided to use Dolmio bolognese sauce instead of bake beans as it is thicker and more obvious on camera. Overall it was much mroe effective.<br />
<br />
We put all of our bags and things under the stairs in the bottom of a block of flats in which one of our zombies lives. This way there would be no chance of us catching them on camera.<br />
<br />
We used Tas's camera this time which appears a little more technical than the Sanyo camera we borrowed from the school last time, however I have not compared the specifications yet so I don't know the actual differences. The only thing I would say is that the image doesn't appear to be as clear as on the first camera.<br />
<br />
We had finished filming by 3 o'clock and we cleared up and went home. Ernie and Tas came to my house at 4 o'clock to start editing. This time we used Adobe Premiere Elements rather than Sony Vegas for the simple reason that my free trial had run out and I had not bought it. However, in my opinion, Adobe Premiere Elements is just as good as Sony Vegas. <br />

<br />
It took 9 hours in total to edit the film. We are very pleased with it and the only thing left to change is the title board at the end. Ernie is in the process of emailing the GIF to me so that I can add it to our piece.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />
</div>This is our final draft of our zombie film opening: <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bjVQUDV1mxU" target="_blank">Not Quite Alive But Definitely Kicking</a><br />

After showing it to our media studies teacher and getting some very minor suggestions to make it even better we made the following changes:<br />
<br />
<ul><li>We made the word 'productions' more visible on the production logo</li>
<li>We added sound to the production logo</li>
<li>We moved the title board to the middle</li>
<li>We changed the title board to the official one</li>
<li>We moved all of the actors names to the middle</li>
<li>We decreased the volume of the narration</li>
<li>We decreased the volume of the wind</li>

I also wanted to make a <a href="http://www.techsmith.com/jing.html?gclid=COC2jqOE564CFc4LtAoddASgiw" target="_blank">Jing</a> to experiment with using and editing it So I made one showing the my adding the final touches to our film opening, checking it and putting it on Youtube.<br />

This is the first draft of our chosen production logo. Ernie thinks that the colours can still be improved but I disagree and think that they are perfect. Overall I am very impressed with this and think that the composition and the images really work. My only criticism is that the production in the bottom of the second E could be bolder, at the moment it is difficult to see.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-68672354735933867672012-03-06T05:13:00.001-08:002012-03-07T02:27:34.702-08:00REFILMING 05/03/12On Sunday, we had arranged to refilm in order to eliminate the mistakes that we have listed. However, on the day, after arriving and setting, 8 of our 9 actors contacted us saying that they could not make it. This was due to a mix of problems such as too much of their own work and the poor weather. <br />
<br />
We used the time that we spent there productively though by experimenting with the makeup. The original makeup consisted of white facepaint with dark eyes. However, we felt that this was not subtle enough.<br />
<br />

This is much more effective we feel and now that we have had practice, when we do actually refilm, it will be much more efficient for us to do the makeup and give us the maximum length of time for filming. <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUcxL5h62EnDZfd4i7in0VJc5zjKRtKbvAp8HLE-UwCfNsf1NMisFxaN7qLc-KzSZil8HCebcOtQP_6a99QaTRg3m9ZVqN7hgLGZQcGlm8tUVqfCjZEK5E7j1XyUq4p4ivnSfD1Fe53zJg/s1600/revised+makeup.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="308" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgUcxL5h62EnDZfd4i7in0VJc5zjKRtKbvAp8HLE-UwCfNsf1NMisFxaN7qLc-KzSZil8HCebcOtQP_6a99QaTRg3m9ZVqN7hgLGZQcGlm8tUVqfCjZEK5E7j1XyUq4p4ivnSfD1Fe53zJg/s400/revised+makeup.jpg" uda="true" width="400" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;">We will be refilming on Saturday and this time we will nto make the mistake of choosing actors who are unsure of whether they will be able to make it or not. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: left;"></div>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-49515786297754372272012-03-06T04:54:00.005-08:002012-03-07T02:24:27.525-08:00NARRATIONWe have started deciding on the narration for our film opening. <br />
<br />
It has to be in the style of a wildlife documentary so below is an example of David Attenborough narrating the wolf section of Life Of Mammals. <br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UH-6r5jrGI">http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_UH-6r5jrGI</a><br />
<br />
We are going to use this to draw the similarities between the wolves featured at the start and the zombies throughout with the narration mirroring the zombies actions. It will emphasise the animalistic nature of the zombies. <br />
<br />
Here is our first draft of the narration. we are basing it on our first draft of our film opening so we will adjust it and fine tune it once we have edited our draft again so that it fits the action exactly. <br />
<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYbd9urROV7RfQRPn06EBt2JsXxd6bFBCl7JLc9KpOrN_eW_m7p1uohiYqioXeQJ4jGNarVSAcF-KckxRDsdmE2PSjXZ1DA6GIze_A_9JDSrPyqcZSZoTjqCJLJe1GEde8BFLrOSAdF4y6/s1600/narration.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="290" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiYbd9urROV7RfQRPn06EBt2JsXxd6bFBCl7JLc9KpOrN_eW_m7p1uohiYqioXeQJ4jGNarVSAcF-KckxRDsdmE2PSjXZ1DA6GIze_A_9JDSrPyqcZSZoTjqCJLJe1GEde8BFLrOSAdF4y6/s640/narration.jpg" width="640" yda="true" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">We have also been looking at sound effects for the beginning of the film. It was suggested to us that we could use bird sounds or car sounds as ambient noise before the music starts. However, we feel that this would be contradicting the dead nature of the surroundings. So we have agreed on having some wind noises. This also has the connotations of a wild west in empty shots of the deserts with some tumbleweed and wind sound effects and this may bring more comedy to our piece. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />

<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj48LiOxrUVtLiNT-PVzxc6EzogRwyb8gNPZCFY5j_GPgiBMMzls4y5BehmKswpEHyeQMO4qP_iXN6ansOhgSwiNDTN5Tadap00-p55o2TooK-O972FToFzFVshyphenhyphen26QNX-wkpD42DLoOu_/s1600/facebook+event+screenshot.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhj48LiOxrUVtLiNT-PVzxc6EzogRwyb8gNPZCFY5j_GPgiBMMzls4y5BehmKswpEHyeQMO4qP_iXN6ansOhgSwiNDTN5Tadap00-p55o2TooK-O972FToFzFVshyphenhyphen26QNX-wkpD42DLoOu_/s640/facebook+event+screenshot.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<br />
So far, I have only stated the dates and the time and how many we need so that those who want to do it and those who can do are seperated.<br />
After we have organised who is acting as what, we will send out a list of requirements concerning constume and makeup etc.<br />
<br />
However, despite the event being live for just over a week, we have had no responses so we are going to have to start ambushing drama classes and trying to recruit actors this way.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-68424106463095937082012-02-23T09:22:00.000-08:002012-02-23T09:22:08.661-08:00FIGHT DANCINGI have spoked to a friend of mine who has been studying dance for several years and in a few months will start a dance diploma.<br />
<br />
I told her that we were looking for someone who could choreograph a fight scene with some dance lifts in it to make it funnier.<br />
<br />
She suggested looking at a dance group called Beyond Words that use some contact dance in their routines, here is the one that she showed me:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
<br />
<iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwJUKSLyQQWiULDl53R3SdUe6bB2p8Q_IVWyv-al5yOBYqJwUqNcludNKXpNId-RGUN4RPozuIHkbyQtAMBFw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br />
We have also agreed that she will be on set with us during filming so that she can direct the actors and get the most out of it.<br />
Tomorrow we shall start discussing the types of things that we want to include in our dance.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-25340302759625176332012-02-21T07:06:00.003-08:002012-02-23T08:40:22.151-08:00Meeting 15/02/12On Wednesday 15th, Ernie, Tas and myself met up to discuss the refilming of our project.<br />
We came to desicions on everything and I have outlined it below:<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: -webkit-auto;"><br />
</div><ul><li><strong><u>We decided that it was absolutely necessary to refilm</u>: </strong>after rewatching our film, we reaslised that we wre dropping too many marks on silly things like mise en scene, having bags in our shots etc.</li>
<li><strong><u>We decided that we wanted only serious actors to be in our film</u>: </strong>as funny as it was with all our friends, we are now running very short of time so we need theatre studies students so that we don't need to do as many takes for each shot.</li>
<li><strong><u>We decided not to film it at night</u>: </strong>it would be fun and exciting to film it at night, but we want it to be funny so we will keep it at the day time so as not to confuse that audiences expectations.</li>
<li><strong><u>We are going to keep the storyline the same</u>: </strong>we decided that we are going to keep the whole opening the same rather than starting from scratch as we will not have enough time.</li>
<li><strong><u>We are going to revise the makeup</u>: </strong>we noticed that the makeup was much too obvious. We have decided to try it out with less black around the eyes and yellow face paint instead of white to make it more subtle and authentic. Tas is now investigating how else we can do the makeup.</li>
<li><strong><u>We need more zombies</u>: </strong>after watching Deadrun, the previous sixth form short film, we realised that the thing that made it so effective was that it had so many more zombies in it, so we are going to add more zombies into our opening.</li>
<li><strong><u>We need to make it funnier</u>: </strong>in order to make it funnier we are going to employ the help of a dance student to choreograph the fight scene so that we can have more dance like and therefore more fitting with the music and the general tone of the piece. Here is a clip of a dance that a dance student showed to me, she will be attending the filming with us so that she can direct the actors according to our brief. </li>

We have not changed our piece since the last time however we shared our ideas for re filming it and below is some of the feedback that we got:<br />
<br />
<div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><em><span style="font-family: inherit;">'I agree with re-recording the introduction because of the jerkiness etc.. I think you should include some sound whether it be very quiet and fading in. Also, keeping the outro is also a good idea, I think you should also keep the black outs which are synced to the audio because it's definitely very powerful.'</span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><em>'You should definitely keep the ending. I think when Cameron falls over, you can tell it's pretty fake. The stuttering start hinders your project. If you are trying to emulate Shaun Of The Dead, remember that it is more reliant on it's dialogue, so turning the fight into a dance sounds like a great idea.'</em></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><em><span style="font-family: inherit;">'You were bang on with where you need to improve and change, once you tighten up the opening with regards to movements and time it's going to look slick and professional! You could have some real fun making the audience jump with this, for instance when the camer is filming out of the window, it would be cool if you could somehow have a zombie jump into the shot?'</span></em></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;">'<em>I think you should still do it in the day rather than night, or have it in a moderately well lit area at night, streetlamps as spotlights or something? The editing in the ending is really great so you should stick with that bit at least. Some of the shots could have been steadier but still great.'</em></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">In response to this feedback, I think we have decided that we are definitely going to keep the ending but we are going to refilm the entire thing. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">After reading the comment about making people jump, I have been thinking that it would work if we had the humans stumble round the corner straight into the zombies or something similar because it will be very difficult to have it in the first shot as we are two stories high. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Also, in response to the last comment about filming it at night, I will go out at night and have a fiddle with the settings on my camera to see if we can increase the contrast to the point where all you can see is what is under the streetlamps. </div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;"><br />
</div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;">Finally, we definitly need to view the dance fight as the central comedy moment of it and so it will take serious choreographing and for this it may be of use to spend an hour or so with someone who does dance as a hobby for them to give us some pointers etc.</div>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-26048927301943513942012-01-31T02:54:00.000-08:002012-01-31T03:07:31.581-08:00TITLE BOARD ANALYSIS<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdjTSidTubHhXxhu6g2mnoFQqJqJ4LVrPL5n09LHNU2rPsgKKHkfzsHZ2TTQTIBem3_DiiG29HI3btXH54wczxIhk8LGUR2-QvOm2o4SRDVMHG-pZgk_ZAxYNtHMnlXdRUugRyUD-ZH-F1/s1600/saun+of+the+dead.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhdjTSidTubHhXxhu6g2mnoFQqJqJ4LVrPL5n09LHNU2rPsgKKHkfzsHZ2TTQTIBem3_DiiG29HI3btXH54wczxIhk8LGUR2-QvOm2o4SRDVMHG-pZgk_ZAxYNtHMnlXdRUugRyUD-ZH-F1/s640/saun+of+the+dead.jpg" width="424" /></a></div><div align="justify"><span style="font-family: inherit;">This title board has a clear focus that is the title of the film 'Shaun Of The Dead' as well as its main star, Simon Pegg.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The creator has made this focus by using contrasting colours; an element that has also been applied to the text as well as the the character.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The use of red as the main colour for the background connotates blood alerting the audience that it has elements of horror in the film. The white has been used to contrast the red and gives a humorous atmosphere. If black had been used for the lettering then it would have given the film a much darker, more serious feel, which would have deceived the audience.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The zombies have also been used to anchor the viewers thoughts. The zombies are unsaturated and grey whilst Pegg is in bright colour instantly catching the viewers eye as it is highly contrasted with the zombies. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The confused look on Pegg's face also connotes humour and alerts the audience to the comedy in the film.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The font that has been used is bold and clear and also very eye catching which makes it easy for the viewers to see the title. The typography used gives a sense of dirty and rushed to finish as the edges of the letters appeared jagged. This works well as it mimicks the movements of the zombies directly above. The hand in the letter A gives the film a stereotypical zombie film feel and combined with the design plays on the audiences expectations about the genre of film and what it will be like. </span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">The composition of the typography emphasises the word 'dead' again anchoring thoughts of the genre of the film and brings attention to the title of the film.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Overall the mixture of both the image and the typography instantly creates a mixture of horror and humour. The image suggests comedy and the typography suggests horror, combining both genres visually to give a clear representation of the film.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">In our opinion, Shaun Of The Dead has a great title board that raises many techniques and styles that we will have to consider when we design the title board for our film 'Not Quite Alive But Definitely Kicking.'</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">_________________________________________________________________</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: justify;"><span style="font-family: inherit;">Below is a powerpoint presentation showing how we started to think about some of the things detailed above for our production logos.</span></div><div class="MsoNormal" style="margin: 0cm 0cm 10pt; text-align: center;"></div><br />

Below are our findings. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMOdZISRUgh7bWBmDWK1_M1riLJAkU3m5ViIX7cr-80XUbOvss39tjM3UDHJmyxvC50JUEwPF7QV7t1dbPKGXnfArWQeNOB0ksE3K_IZifusruovuIXfpQTlwizF7PzdPd8znwv2buSQT8/s1600/typography+graph.bmp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="374" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiMOdZISRUgh7bWBmDWK1_M1riLJAkU3m5ViIX7cr-80XUbOvss39tjM3UDHJmyxvC50JUEwPF7QV7t1dbPKGXnfArWQeNOB0ksE3K_IZifusruovuIXfpQTlwizF7PzdPd8znwv2buSQT8/s640/typography+graph.bmp" width="640" /></a></div><br />

We may also develop them according to the feedback given by the participants of the questionnaire:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">The general consensus of design 3 is that the original design appeals to the target audience and as a group, we agree. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">The feedback of design 4 said that the audience like the clear focus of the design as the word 'TEE' appears to be the main subject of it. Also, the audience found the 3D effect very appealing as it is modern and futuristic.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">______________________________________________________________________<br />

The audience liked that it related to the Film Industry and has been pointed out in many of the questionnaires.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">An improvement that has been suggested is that steam could be coming off the word T.E.E which is a very good idea and will definitly be taken into account if we decide to develop it. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">Design 5 also won many votes and this is due to the simplicity of the design. However, there was one person who suggested that it may be <em>too </em>simple.<br />
An improvement suggested for this design was a little puddle of tea, or Spillage. Another suggestion was to add a border and this will be taken into account if we decide to develop it.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"></div>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-89294575116932269452012-01-26T03:46:00.001-08:002012-01-31T04:55:19.016-08:00STORYBOARD 2.0<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">In a previous post I have outlined the generic storyline for a zombie film, below I have outlined the narrative for our zombie film for which we are making the opening of.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><ul><li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Female protagonist introduced</strong> - she gets into trouble with zombies, about to be eaten.</div></li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Male protagonist is introduced</strong> - he is a 'Zombie Killer' mysterious killer (<em>the man in the mask in Misfits series 2</em>).</div></li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Male protagonist saves female protagonist</strong>.</div></li>
<li><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghB5HZCO10tVQM6g1aS1ZyZPl5a5B2wGbnjVI5qc61ZqHkGwzV7lowQs5LOqQn3fDxNSmm_yYbtZTB36u_GPzmytfdsSFbA-gTWWrcp434sEM8AEtUOeWcWICaNLag3FrphzOdQD2u4WLk/s1600/simon+misfits.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="200" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghB5HZCO10tVQM6g1aS1ZyZPl5a5B2wGbnjVI5qc61ZqHkGwzV7lowQs5LOqQn3fDxNSmm_yYbtZTB36u_GPzmytfdsSFbA-gTWWrcp434sEM8AEtUOeWcWICaNLag3FrphzOdQD2u4WLk/s200/simon+misfits.jpg" width="133" /></a><strong>F.P falls for M.P</strong> and starts to deliberatly get herself into trouble in order to get him to come and rescue her.</div></li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>Zombie Antagonist is introduced</strong> - he/she is cleverer than the others and is trying to catch them (<em>I am Legend/The Dead</em>)</div></li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>M.P and F.P fall in love</strong> - there is a period of time during which they are fighting zombies side by side and having fun. </div></li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>F.P is killed by Z.A</strong> - dramatic romantic moment when she is turned into a zombie in front of M.P</div></li>
<li><div style="text-align: justify;"><strong>M.P committs suicide</strong> - runs into battle and brings down as many zombies as possible.</div></li>
</ul><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div>This is a brief storyboard of the rest of the narrative for our zombie film. If we decide to redo our film opening from scratch I would suggest that we use the first 3 bullet points for it. I am putting together a storyboard at the moment that illustrates how we could do this, it will posted up very shortly.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-84812672744830436162012-01-26T03:45:00.000-08:002012-01-31T05:27:20.320-08:00IMPROVING OUR FILM OPENINGAfter rewatching our film a few times, we came to the conclusion that it was neccessary for us to refilm even if we kept it the same. This is because that lots of the shots include things that shouldn't be in them as part of the mise en scene. For example:<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOh3oieIT0m2yUyjcOWJvC1e8RuScCPA05GhohpdnrozZSNOPfTMbxyxq19FxNnbaaV7Xk5Oak-1B0bfErkzrGhuwgcziBOeHR9LeU-Vf0t1y8sRpt1gU9LO1rwWsJIMeXim5aW_O2b4TO/s1600/mistake+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="179" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgOh3oieIT0m2yUyjcOWJvC1e8RuScCPA05GhohpdnrozZSNOPfTMbxyxq19FxNnbaaV7Xk5Oak-1B0bfErkzrGhuwgcziBOeHR9LeU-Vf0t1y8sRpt1gU9LO1rwWsJIMeXim5aW_O2b4TO/s320/mistake+1.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">Here the tripod is very plainly in shot. This will lose us marks as it is an example of bad mise en scene.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">When we redo this, we shall move all equipment that we are not using into the hall of the block of flats nearby so that there is no chance of it being caught in the shot.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0eDpUgrf7ToecPySqrlW-vAzpS5IxjbPaSNdvr8wvYmJECnpv3T52VuAHll6alGmzLusx6VV-45gvPaJlmjHZGoQAbrUVuRE6kNrfxYeCMXAGjr53FwFJQyXcq-QjKq_4AX-nh67P7831/s1600/mistake+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj0eDpUgrf7ToecPySqrlW-vAzpS5IxjbPaSNdvr8wvYmJECnpv3T52VuAHll6alGmzLusx6VV-45gvPaJlmjHZGoQAbrUVuRE6kNrfxYeCMXAGjr53FwFJQyXcq-QjKq_4AX-nh67P7831/s320/mistake+2.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is a shot during which Cameron (male human survivor) looks at the camera and asks if it is filming. For our rough draft we decided that the moment between him doing thsi and him breaking free from the fight was too short so we had to include it.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">In our refilm we shall do many takes to the same shot so that we can eliminate any breaking of the $th wall.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjURGiO1r9TQF0i2UsYxTAt8KFqx2AuZ8FDBcmHMNpdcREITf94O35ozYJ_VX353abVUP2SB3yX-8ctInx0BioomSMtxTvOYejlmrp657TW7xBB_BzUE4UCvN5j7smA_Y6UymbdhxdtUDsE/s1600/mistake+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="176" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjURGiO1r9TQF0i2UsYxTAt8KFqx2AuZ8FDBcmHMNpdcREITf94O35ozYJ_VX353abVUP2SB3yX-8ctInx0BioomSMtxTvOYejlmrp657TW7xBB_BzUE4UCvN5j7smA_Y6UymbdhxdtUDsE/s320/mistake+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;">This is another example of msie en scene. This shot lasts much longer however, so the bags and equipment are much more prominent and this will lose us even more marks than the first shot. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Again, to overcome this problem in the refilm, we shall put all of our bags and things that we don't want to be in the shot in the foyer of the block of flats from which this shot was taken. That way they will not be caught in the shot.</div><br />
We have also been considering the option of rewriting the whole thing entirely and starting from scratch. At the moment, we really like how quickly it is paced and the shots that we have used. However, it needs to be shorter and we think that it is not funny enough for it to be a comedy zombie film.<br />
<br />
We were looking to create a deliberatly amsuing zombie fim opening, however at the moment, it seems much more to be a tongue-in-cheek accidentally funny piece.<br />
<br />
We are going to add some mroe things in that will make it funnier, for example, making the fight scene much more dance like so that it is more amusing. I am making a quick storyboard that includes some of the things that we feel would improve it.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-13457283142318053872012-01-26T03:44:00.001-08:002012-01-31T01:25:34.615-08:00AUDIENCEWe decided that in order to improve our film we needed to do mroe research into our target audience. I found the statement below on the <a href="http://www.digitalfilmarchive.net/clda/docs/mia/film_lesson_plans/Genre%20Elements.pdf" target="_blank">Digital Film Archive</a>:<br />
<br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHsnZZU0WaRDFoWDi6dOWUTGd_yRMXe80urzsIQJEiTx6TsOuzCkfTAcmVB4Ko0dSWZ4rjL3Na3-2TJYS7xvy72C0FZeta98qyCwCdhSyXVRJWiZH8zA32Msm-YZupeFthybpGgm6RbxGc/s1600/scared+audience.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; cssfloat: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiHsnZZU0WaRDFoWDi6dOWUTGd_yRMXe80urzsIQJEiTx6TsOuzCkfTAcmVB4Ko0dSWZ4rjL3Na3-2TJYS7xvy72C0FZeta98qyCwCdhSyXVRJWiZH8zA32Msm-YZupeFthybpGgm6RbxGc/s320/scared+audience.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><em>'<strong>horror movies make a direct appeal to our emotions - the fear and desire to be frightened, to be taken to the edge of our cinema seats. Horror movies have therefore been popular with adult audiences and have a particular appeal to young people.'</strong></em></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;">I then read a short paper on the Analysis of Genre Prefrences in UK Film Audiences on a blog posted by <a href="http://nickredfern.wordpress.com/tag/statistics/" target="_blank">Nick Redfern</a>:</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><strong><em>'male audience members exhibit stronger preferences for science fiction, action/advernture and horror films while women preferred romantic comedies and family films.'</em></strong></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><strong><em>'younger respondents were more likely to select comedy and horror as their favourite genres, whereas older audience members were more likely to select dramas, documentaries and classic films.'</em></strong></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN-VfN8HXxzAvI2bBby6Pz8rUzUHqhu9z0uHo_ohW35ea5B259Cb7nv6-xaqVWObqEQjFa_RA7b0xGrWsSO8vf8P6zGJvGrjotIGfbvMa7jNm7Y6P_CvuK6qgClPJsqVNxDd4Tcs4nJ5y4/s1600/teenagers.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="131" sda="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjN-VfN8HXxzAvI2bBby6Pz8rUzUHqhu9z0uHo_ohW35ea5B259Cb7nv6-xaqVWObqEQjFa_RA7b0xGrWsSO8vf8P6zGJvGrjotIGfbvMa7jNm7Y6P_CvuK6qgClPJsqVNxDd4Tcs4nJ5y4/s200/teenagers.jpg" width="200" /></a>This research concludes that without specifically directing it at a target audience, young males are more likely to watch zombie movies than any other type of person. However, now that we know this, we need to be careful that we do not limit ourselves to appealing to the mindset of this category of people.</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: justify;">We need to remember not to make it pure action but to also involve enough emotion so that it will also appeal to other members of the British filmgoing population. However, as it is a zombie film, it will never be a family film so we do also have a fair amount of freedom with what we put in. For example, as we are not aiming it at families of 4 with young children, we can add as much gore as our abilities will allow. </div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; clear: both; text-align: justify;">Now that we have researched our limitations we can adjust our film accordingly so that it is more suitable for our target population and more appealing. </div>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-49907994015601925392012-01-10T04:12:00.000-08:002012-01-10T04:18:33.067-08:00FEEDBACKJust before Christmas, we showed our rough edit to the rest of the media class. Below is some of the feedback that we got and how we are going to repsond to it:<br />
<br />
<em>"Great first scene through the window, would be better if you could make the scenes more tense. But anyway, it's good quality,"</em><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">In response to this we have decided to rethink our approach to this project. We have to decide if we want to make more tense or more comedic. If we decide to make it more tense then we shall refilm it at night to add a little more suspense to it. If we decide to make it more comedic, then we shall refilm the fight scene to make it more dance like and therefore funnier.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">_________________________________________________________________________<br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><em>"Not too sure about the soundtrack, although it was well timed with the action. Camera angles were also very good,"</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We are definitely considering changing the soundtrack, however at the moment I think it is perfect and that we just need to adjust the style of the action to fit the music. If we do decide to change the soundtrack then we should look at all of our options, such as classical, something famous, something unknown or even having a student write an original piece for us.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">________________________________________________________________________</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><em>"It was so awesome. You could add more sound effects, e.g zombie growls,"</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We are definitly going to add sound effects to break up the music a bit and to add more authenticity to the piece. Also, we need to add more ambient sounds to the start such as bird song so that it is not just silence because at the moment it sounds like a mistake.</div><div style="text-align: justify;">________________________________________________________________________<br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><em>"The drop of the music matching the zombie charge was TOTALLY WICKED!!!!!"</em></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We spent a long time matching the music to the action here and this is one of the reasons that I think that we should keep the soundtrack. However, because of the mixed responses that we have received we shall put out a survey, either on SurveyMonkey or just through our friends.</div>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-86918880803335341052012-01-03T01:44:00.000-08:002012-01-03T06:50:52.050-08:00'T.E.E PRODUCTIONS' LOGOBelow are the initial designs for our productions logo 'T.E.E Productions'.<br />
T.E.E are the first initials of our names, T-Tasnim, E-Edith, E-Ernie. During one of our meetings, we decided that we would play with the word 'TEE' and apply the concept of a cup of tea, not only because it is a strong British icon but also because it will attract our audience as it includes an element of humour.<br />
<br />
The sketches below were done by Ernie over Christmas and do not yet include colour as we have not yet decided on a colour scheme.<br />
<br />
Once we have chosen the design that we want to use Ernie will edit it on Photoshop using real images and applying the font type that we decide on.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjos4uwWFC3oBT5cB7WYuBAK7mMQP6bJ_A8xJWQoQ5SdHrWbaAw9qrF2ofOy2yCZVBu-vgJthVhyphenhyphene4EhsaFd-GRv9XG3jJ0DTBeZGTgJrB32_OxHIYn_iqNTuOMNUMjkvVTM3AUa6JRz6tp/s1600/tee+prod+1.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjos4uwWFC3oBT5cB7WYuBAK7mMQP6bJ_A8xJWQoQ5SdHrWbaAw9qrF2ofOy2yCZVBu-vgJthVhyphenhyphene4EhsaFd-GRv9XG3jJ0DTBeZGTgJrB32_OxHIYn_iqNTuOMNUMjkvVTM3AUa6JRz6tp/s1600/tee+prod+1.jpg" /></a><span style="font-size: large;"><strong></strong></span><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>1.</strong></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;">This is the original idea that Ernie thought of once we told him what we wanted in the logo. It contains the tea idea while also clearly presenting the company name and because of it's simplicity it is a very effective logo.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;">However it lacks originality and it may be difficult to improve and would need a lot of work in order for it to have a professional finished look.</span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0z-4MySeQ4EmBko57EMJZLQj4-aIA2mEej7xWZjsKOJNaoqWRkmxrv-k8JEHACaiIMEvWYpNkU0S-BtI9gisUMJWp0nK3pBp5XW-vt80wcf1CpTu2kIGADdRn-iqZQ8IQMV5FbxT_WuYt/s1600/tee+prod+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh0z-4MySeQ4EmBko57EMJZLQj4-aIA2mEej7xWZjsKOJNaoqWRkmxrv-k8JEHACaiIMEvWYpNkU0S-BtI9gisUMJWp0nK3pBp5XW-vt80wcf1CpTu2kIGADdRn-iqZQ8IQMV5FbxT_WuYt/s1600/tee+prod+2.jpg" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: small;"><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>2. </strong></span></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The composition of this idea was very much influenced by the first idea. We continued with our idea of tea and by including a teenager in the logo we felt that it may be more attractive to our target audience.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A way of improving this idea would be to have various types of people holding the cup of tea, not unlike the 'Dreamworks logo' as they had a logo with a <a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjR1-CwGmqiGeoE8jn3UuYTR_aR7DWmVtsQx71pSWZ9yUN9fX2tNnqFPqxCrKDo-tO0ZIVZvbfLMcT_du5FvF3v991BNJajm98ESQASnnrBJC5LQ-Q63F-W3-_aaorMIonCmlmfY_SrUhU/s1600/Dreamworksupload.jpg" target="_blank">daytime atmosphere</a> and a <a href="http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20111102095136/transformers/images/9/91/Dreamworks-logo.png" target="_blank">nightime atmosphere</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDXP5FMJdK2FE0RhCX4aBsVydq6kbUXvwU-LddBSyrtzf3_00-6hOdHwB6DheHSaU9daLHB6Mozc2evy74pVmD6vBYih78o6owE9ZtA3oHM-ySHGiROX25M6iWZ2POPEmXIewBfh21-6FA/s1600/tee+prod+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="252" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgDXP5FMJdK2FE0RhCX4aBsVydq6kbUXvwU-LddBSyrtzf3_00-6hOdHwB6DheHSaU9daLHB6Mozc2evy74pVmD6vBYih78o6owE9ZtA3oHM-ySHGiROX25M6iWZ2POPEmXIewBfh21-6FA/s320/tee+prod+3.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>3. </strong></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This idea is perhaps the most ovbious one given our brief and it's simplicity is definitly it's selling point. The clear, to-the-point approach that Ernie has adopted really works and improving it would be relatively easy as it is a high standard already.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">However, the downside of this particular idea is that it seems to be targeting an older population rather than our prefferred target audience. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKS6KOc4hFvpfG1aLrI_QM3oaAYa9ZnI-W-c33V4yj_t85rIFlwf-u1pMZYtxEjbyqX8jBrWBc4xAG4c2MoKWG8fR__8HU7Ep_An_8MAu5ehSlRgg1G4rhRcW0hqubuIjIRA50V3DDkDR/s1600/tee+prod+4.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="219" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjDKS6KOc4hFvpfG1aLrI_QM3oaAYa9ZnI-W-c33V4yj_t85rIFlwf-u1pMZYtxEjbyqX8jBrWBc4xAG4c2MoKWG8fR__8HU7Ep_An_8MAu5ehSlRgg1G4rhRcW0hqubuIjIRA50V3DDkDR/s320/tee+prod+4.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>4.</strong></span></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">This is the revised version of the previous design because although the concept works, we decided that it would be more striking if we enlarged the text to have it expanding outside of the cup. It was inspired by the <a href="http://thefilmstage.com/wp-content/uploads/2011/12/Universal-Wallpaper-logo-planet-earth-stars.jpg" target="_blank">Universal</a> logo.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If this idea were to be developed further, we would use warm colours to create a homely effect which not only would encourage the audience to relax and get comfortable but is probably much more attractive to our target population.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1uV0JPs-DSgtudu5v7uKmXv6AdiE2cWfd6HPoe0eY7bp0VjglDVl7cDbiFV7vfgqXrpyimsPXJS0DxPeV5cQqW_4d7M3o_6PssLQ2bpwVZXfH5Uv5ChdN0Gakr6rrGxWTHdMt1H6ATFnu/s1600/tee+prod+5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; cssfloat: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="223" rea="true" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEj1uV0JPs-DSgtudu5v7uKmXv6AdiE2cWfd6HPoe0eY7bp0VjglDVl7cDbiFV7vfgqXrpyimsPXJS0DxPeV5cQqW_4d7M3o_6PssLQ2bpwVZXfH5Uv5ChdN0Gakr6rrGxWTHdMt1H6ATFnu/s320/tee+prod+5.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><span style="font-size: large;"><strong>5.</strong></span> </div><div style="text-align: left;">While the other designs are based around the image of the cup of tea so for this idea we decided to venture out and spread to much more media based ideas.</div><div style="text-align: left;">The stereotypical 'old school' style of the camera mixed with the tea cup handle provides an image that is unique yet easily relatable to the audience. We then chose to use the font and position of the text from the first idea as this was our favourite.</div><div style="text-align: left;">With all of these elements combined together we have managed to create an original, humorous yet eye catching logo that also manages to attract our target market.</div><div style="text-align: left;">______________________________________________________________________________</div><div style="text-align: left;"></div><div style="text-align: right;"><br />
Idea 5 is our personal favourite however we would like to find out what our audience think as it is them that we are trying to target. So to do this we shall set up a SurveyMonkey so that people can choose their favourites while at the same time we shall email a seperate group of people to give us more elaborate feedback on each design. There shall be a followup post detailing our findings. </div>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-30655593957216650922011-12-06T06:59:00.000-08:002012-01-06T04:37:05.789-08:00DEAD RUN<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwNKAoe-2lUyOmEHqwuo1FqHwPqz4QUolXbW4ClTmt1BWYo3EKLt2lbe49CysfN7Jd8sMHKuo-fQYzGkQmzcg' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br />
This is an example of a zombie made by a media group last year however this is a teaser trailer and not a film opening.<br />
The main difference between ours and theirs is that theirs is much more of a serious zombie fiml whereas ours is very tongue-in-cheek.<br />
The use of low lighting and the silhouette adds a typical horror film effect which draws the audience in and plays on their expectations. The wide range of zooming alerts the viewer to and maximises the connatations of danger which increases the tension.<br />
The use of a bigger number of actors makes a very realistic school environment however, the loud speaker makes it very american and this is not something that British people can really relate to.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-42516417656799215212011-12-06T05:33:00.000-08:002011-12-06T05:33:15.586-08:00PRESENTATIONToday we have to present our rough edits of our film openings.<br />
We decided that we wanted to do something a little more challenging than a powerpoint presentation and something that we hadn't done before.<br />
<br />
Initially we wanted to do a Prezie however we found this software too confusing and time consuming so we changed our plan to an XtraNormal animation explaining what worked well and what we need to change.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/12773178/not-quite-dead-but-definitely-kicking?page=1"><span style="color: #0069bb;">http://www.xtranormal.com/watch/12773178/not-quite-dead-but-definitely-kicking?page=1</span></a><br />
<br />
The points that we covered in our animation are:<br />
<div></div><div></div><ul><li>The fact that it is too long.</li>
<li>The typography situation.</li>
<li>How we are going to improve it, e.g filming it at night (see future blogs).</li>
<li>The sound we used and why.</li>
<li>Film openings that inspired us.</li>
</ul>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-42521737262503027392011-12-01T04:13:00.000-08:002011-12-05T11:11:52.816-08:00ROUGH EDITSo we have put together a rough edit of our zombie film opening. So far, it is too long and doesn't have a title board or a production logo. We will attend to these matters when we do our second draft.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxx-2Y_XofjaYzJrnRAPQL6go3XmtnPO_sxuYo39wT6iW6dDMaKIzPeuQoMuoaaXKDcJRWTynX_PyH9Niqk' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><br />
<br />
At the moment, the film is 2.55 minutes long, but the examining board says that it has to be 2 minutes. However, in my opinion, there are definitly things that we can speed up, cut down or completely cut out. The biggest shame is that we will have to cut the music down to 2 minutes as it is 2.15. <br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieS-r029y8eWyCLVJ9jcm4TxqnnSSVAeifADJYHBGOdLCMrFr40lUcaQEF7GHXJvmXAYG3dSAjyVbaUmjYHrWz99lg0arHq0f8bkyOSL8pGK6jXDl-9WPnCUqatKQrr9DUgY1FxVD7lt5S/s1600/final+shot+of+film+opening.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="111" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEieS-r029y8eWyCLVJ9jcm4TxqnnSSVAeifADJYHBGOdLCMrFr40lUcaQEF7GHXJvmXAYG3dSAjyVbaUmjYHrWz99lg0arHq0f8bkyOSL8pGK6jXDl-9WPnCUqatKQrr9DUgY1FxVD7lt5S/s200/final+shot+of+film+opening.jpg" width="200" /></a>My favourite bit is by far the last shot. I think the use of the tights stuffed and painted creates the perfect tongue-in-cheek budget zombie movie feel that we are aiming for. <br />
<br />
We still need to add in the narration, however we needed the rough edit first in order to know exactly what should be said. Over the past few weeks, we have been listening to various people as they talk and assessing how well they would fit the part. In my opinion, the person with the most suitable voice so far is our media studies teacher, Mr Wroe. However, there will be a future blog post with a formal assesment of different peoples voices so that we can choose the best.<br />
<br />
There is a generic narrative for every zombie films and I have depicted it below.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9f6hL3OcZ4C0zCOf9Q6WhH0nhVHJXitN0PjrGpp6ucIlmVqut4arcxgdKZ7y-nBGx8pvdLtkOVxfhz32m_PqutN6y-sBhGzaNUoE2JIk3o583PJcsdW6DypEQ3C1rfppepgcz1X1XJWft/s1600/generic+zombie+narrative.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="248" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh9f6hL3OcZ4C0zCOf9Q6WhH0nhVHJXitN0PjrGpp6ucIlmVqut4arcxgdKZ7y-nBGx8pvdLtkOVxfhz32m_PqutN6y-sBhGzaNUoE2JIk3o583PJcsdW6DypEQ3C1rfppepgcz1X1XJWft/s640/generic+zombie+narrative.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<br />
We have tried to put our own twist on it and develop the characters. I have depicted our narrative below:<br />
<br />
{our narrative}<br />
<br />
As you can see, there is still a fair amount for us to do, but at least now we know the order of the shots and can get on with cutting it down.Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-39476638969241815272011-11-29T07:06:00.000-08:002011-11-29T08:26:35.845-08:00TYPOGRAPHYAbout a week ago we decided that our company was going to be called T.E.E Productions which is based on the first initial of each of our names. It seems a little unimaginative, but we liked the sound of it and decided that we would use a play on words to incorporate a cup of tea into our logo.<br />
<br />
Ernie has since been doing some work analysing other film company logos and putting together our logo and animation. None of his designs are finished yet and therefore we have not seen them, but after he has finished some then we will come to an agreement on which one we decide is nicest. <br />
<br />
Below are some examples of some very famous film companies logos and Ernie's analysis of them.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpdRiZei3IdBWzU82rFi3fPPmm6a7-tIjvGQEpy1j_LA2vqwjAYq5q4XQf0gcYtnuKN6kCzOTnUaTu-9YXKH0l5lbbnmdItYlI6w1RpgtoUsLMbzwyejVf-UKCarFoDcHYnQBGI-bExm3M/s1600/948_upi.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" closure_uid_brb0j0="2" height="215" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhpdRiZei3IdBWzU82rFi3fPPmm6a7-tIjvGQEpy1j_LA2vqwjAYq5q4XQf0gcYtnuKN6kCzOTnUaTu-9YXKH0l5lbbnmdItYlI6w1RpgtoUsLMbzwyejVf-UKCarFoDcHYnQBGI-bExm3M/s400/948_upi.jpg" width="400" /></a><br />
This Production logo conotes richness and and simplicity and therefore is very effective and memorable. The use of the white and gold conotes high budget and instantly would anchor the audience's opinions about the film as it sets high standards. The use of the shadowing also adds to the this effect. The gold underlay in the font is shiny, this again connotes richness and weath, re-inforcing the idea of their films being high budget.<br />
The world being visable at the back of the word "UNIVERSAL" re-inforces that this company is very sucessful and re-inforces the meaning of the word.<br />
Overall the mixture of the colours and the simplicity really works well together, this could be something that we may use for our production logo.<br />

<br />
DreamWorks's font used is similar to Universals, however they are both presentaed differently, adding a certain stamp in thier own logo.<br />
DreamWorks's emphasises the word "Dream" with the combination of the colours used; espicially with the darker version of the logo, the night reinforces the idea of sleeping, therefore dreaming.<br />
The clouds and the moon also adds to this effect, by doing this the company is deliberately connotes fairytales. this suggets that they are targetting the younger generation.<br />
The company having two different versions of the logo allows them to choose the one more appropiate to the film, this is a very good idea and may influence me in my designs.<br />
The mixture of the underling and the small print of the words "Animation SKG" is also very effective and would be very influencial in my designs.<br />

Even though the colours are very limited, it still really works well for the composition. The clever use of camera film in the Ts looks great and the mirrored effect of the letters gives it a unique feel. We liked the mixture of the different sizes letters and it made us consider the sizes of the letters in our own production logo. It also made us start to think outside the box and not go for the obvious.</span>Edith Bannisterhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09950726449563405164noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8900144731531729639.post-58243499269957736072011-11-28T02:51:00.000-08:002011-12-15T13:23:09.938-08:00SOUND<div style="text-align: justify;">Today we went into a lot more detail in sound, thinking about how sound is used in films and TV dramas as well as how we are going to use it. We learnt a lot of technical terms and how they related to our projects.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><ul><li style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="text-align: justify;">SOUND BRIDGE - this is the first term that we learnt. This is when sound is carried over from one scene to another. It can be diegetic or non diegetic, added post production or during filming. A good example is when you hear someone's voice start up at the end up the last scene before cutting to the next scene. For a few seconds, the voice behaves more like a voiceover than just a sound bridge. Sound effects such as footsteps can also be used as sound bridges along with the music of course. </div></li>
</ul><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dxBM2p_fTSnUlDeOjQs3pC6geIjD6pKF6hcJh-3G_d0YuSJ088t73GdG2O-LLgxoU6SyncnuIojjDXOiiXwAw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul><li>RHYTHMIC EDITING - this is when a piece of film is edited to fit the rhythm and pace of the backing music. This is very effective when used during moment of high tension with a fast paced backing track.</li>
</ul><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dwwBJ-FFLv44ejg1OoeT2POCmeogMKZMpR_K-R7gJGF-_Y6QZdibVGAucEGKJmcDBvDyijr9aylaM8CMXj6pA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>
<li>SOUND PERSPECTIVE - this is in relation to the apparent distance and position of sound. For example, if a plane flies over head during a piece of film, the sound may get louder in one speaker, then move to a second speaker where it gets quieter, giving the impression that it is going past.</li>
</ul><br />
<div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"></div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />

<br />
</div><ul><li><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dz5TJeDXygjvxUr_z64OFKm-05h5eiL8UW3i2FkS-Y2ZMrsn3n5KhEfgn4TV5ZGGV6X-f4K87RT0vcVFMj-uw' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>THEME - this is the main melody in the composition. It is repeated throughout the piece of film and is very emotionally is very charged, such as the tune played at the start of each Harry Potter film because it represents the film itself and the excitement of being in the cinema watching it. Another example is the bass noises used repeatedly in Shutter Island, these represent the film as a whole. </div></div></li>
</ul><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><ul><li style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"><div style="text-align: justify;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dz_HQ-ZpnTgkg4QrL-zCjfvEIEpKFeZ5VRr-W4DA0zA40IoB3SDGYGVzYB8Oo4-CBH-zclP7O4WBjiSwyCvhQ' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe>MOTIF - this is very much like a theme in that it is a repeated melody, however it represents a character or moment rather than a feeling. In a single film you may get a different motif for each character. One of the most well known examples of a motif is Jaws, the repeated melody symbolising the appearence of the shark. Another great example is Mystique's theme from X Men, the violin riff that is played everytime she is approaching.</div></li>

</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
Below is a mind map that my group and I have made to present these sound terms as well as some others and how they relate to our own project.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<div style="text-align: justify;">The film editing software that we are going to use is Sony Vegas Platinum. This is because that out of all of the software available to us, this is the most high tech and will help us achieve the most professional standard possible.</div><br />
<div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhnbHXaO-Z64R4i-2maBQVeWrFczhYHwgj7pnOiECpB1Sj_dQ4nQJwQBzBiGMW1xpcfkg-fSpos2QAA44vQ4D5wKS6PIFoFrMexVaxLCCA71ZYY21DgVdFPd1iCIrcAQBD21ct8eG275mj/s1600/imovie+icon.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjhnbHXaO-Z64R4i-2maBQVeWrFczhYHwgj7pnOiECpB1Sj_dQ4nQJwQBzBiGMW1xpcfkg-fSpos2QAA44vQ4D5wKS6PIFoFrMexVaxLCCA71ZYY21DgVdFPd1iCIrcAQBD21ct8eG275mj/s200/imovie+icon.png" width="200" /></a>The other software that we could have chosen were:</div><br />
<ul><li style="text-align: justify;">Windows Movie Maker - this is the most basic piece of film editing software. It is suitable for cutting and splicing shots together but the effects are not particularly interesting nor are there very many. You cannot do things such as speed up or slow down footage to the degree that you want. </li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">IMovie - this is the Mac version of Windows Movie Maker. This means that of course it is better than Windows Movie Maker, however, it still has limited effects and preferences, best for making home movies.</li>
<li style="text-align: justify;">Adobe Premiere Elements - this is a very nice piece of software to use, even if I have the old version. The step up from iMovie to Premiere Elements is a huge one. All of a sudden there are so many more options in terms of effects, music, transitions etc etc. I have used this for a while and am fairly used to it. However, what I would say is that it is lacking in some very basic things such as 'fade to white' as a transition which is something that I would a fair amount if it were available to me.</li>
</ul><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRjNgpKnM-LQrq59ws1LzLT9gIlGmttF0i-0lgBO_2NruALJsl66OoP19Fmj8u-hIxi2kDm8cZsTTjC7qeD_TBQrPyuQKFmKerZ6IjSqXfDvvAs2csGpM6UbNegDPwbimRFGQVs8JbAUVQ/s1600/Adobe_Premiere_Elements_7_icon.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em; text-align: justify;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjRjNgpKnM-LQrq59ws1LzLT9gIlGmttF0i-0lgBO_2NruALJsl66OoP19Fmj8u-hIxi2kDm8cZsTTjC7qeD_TBQrPyuQKFmKerZ6IjSqXfDvvAs2csGpM6UbNegDPwbimRFGQVs8JbAUVQ/s200/Adobe_Premiere_Elements_7_icon.png" width="200" /></a></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><ul><li style="text-align: justify;">Sony Vegas Platinum - this is by far the most advanced piece of software available to us. It allows us to splice together pieces of footage very acuratly, speed up or slow it down to the exact time we want, it allows to customize our titles and reads footage in almost all formats. In terms of sountrack, it also includes the option to mix your own piece of music using files that you can edit together and change as much as you want. It is the most professional compared to the others and designed for amateur film makers making it the most suitable for our piece. </li>

This is fairly near the end of the opening and I feel that it is one of our strongest shots although we may have to crop it down slightly as you do get a full view of our bags and kit on the corner of the road which I feel is a great shame and greatly regret not noticing earlier so that we could reshoot it. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">The lighting and sound equipment was easy to sort out because in terms of sound, it is all going to be added in during post-production so we didn't need any high-tech microphone on the day. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGJn-AMhRabVyfSa4J92FU5sYI_90zz1wdh85fk1q4z0g9aLDEcMiPDXz3QGwK_BWH8EgNPs__v4urrIECc6KCQydcPBZiITjMD0dkOeRzPeIi1NVmoQzPidX30p5DGfrrHdsxaMD79QII/s1600/sanyo+camcorder.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="276" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgGJn-AMhRabVyfSa4J92FU5sYI_90zz1wdh85fk1q4z0g9aLDEcMiPDXz3QGwK_BWH8EgNPs__v4urrIECc6KCQydcPBZiITjMD0dkOeRzPeIi1NVmoQzPidX30p5DGfrrHdsxaMD79QII/s320/sanyo+camcorder.jpg" width="320" /></a>In terms of lighting, the weather was set to be relatively bright yet cloudy which meant that the light would be dispersed which is perfect photography conditions in terms of the quality of film but also we wanted a natural light rather than electric so we decided against any artificial lighting equipment. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">However, if we had decided to use any then I may have been able to obtain some from the photography studio where I work. </div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;">When it came to the video camera, we decided using our experience from our Prelim Task that we wanted something that filmed in HD. One of our actors owned a digital SLR camera that filmed in HD that she leant to us, however I also hired one out from the library just in case something went wrong with the SLR plans.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>It was just as well that I did this because my memory card was not compatible with the SLR so we started out on the Sanyo camera the belonged to the school. However, this ran out of battery just before we started filming the last of the fight scenes so Mickey leant me her memory card and we switched to the Canon SLR.</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><br />
</div><div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none; text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWNA7AhAH9kZjj_PkKew1b6FEn2VdKx4aY_JJXsGdw1HhrmwbsHmbqoNg9URXzLrbJL_aFSfLGd3scom__wIuHKw4wVGxlRVcjCq6Y_Rb1sNgyl1JG80wEfvZpRuPVs3cV60lUGBQxuo__/s1600/sd+vs+hd.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="360" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgWNA7AhAH9kZjj_PkKew1b6FEn2VdKx4aY_JJXsGdw1HhrmwbsHmbqoNg9URXzLrbJL_aFSfLGd3scom__wIuHKw4wVGxlRVcjCq6Y_Rb1sNgyl1JG80wEfvZpRuPVs3cV60lUGBQxuo__/s640/sd+vs+hd.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>This means that all our footage is in HD. HD stands for High Definition which means that there are many more pixels per frame resulting in a much clearer image with sharper edges. Standard Definition is equivalent to 480 interlaced horizontal lines (480i) stacked from the top to the bottom of the screen. The "interlaced" lines mean that the image (a frame) is made up or alternating fields of 240 lines that are scanned across the screen every 1/60 th of a second.<br />
<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">High-definition sources today come in one of three different resolutions: 1080p, 1080i, and 720p. Comparing the latter two, 1080i has more lines and pixels than 720p, but 720p is a progressive-scan format that should deliver a smoother image that stays sharper during motion. 1080p combines the superior resolution of 1080i with the progressive-scan smoothness of 720p. </div><div style="text-align: justify;">Our cameras filmed in 1080p.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

This is a very reliable tripod that has strong tilt and pan locks, height settings ranging from 30cm to 1.7m as well gripping feet. All of this meant that it was the perfect tripod for the job not least because it is easy to move around. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />

<br />
<u>MAKE UP RESEARCH BY TAS</u><br />
<u><br />
</u><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><iframe allowfullscreen='allowfullscreen' webkitallowfullscreen='webkitallowfullscreen' mozallowfullscreen='mozallowfullscreen' width='320' height='266' src='https://www.blogger.com/video.g?token=AD6v5dzOHXSl1NJkYEioLBc4YjSUhPgcpl2VwRdkXvsdgXsO36uqeO_i7qGyk2VrGwE3kY6PlRwzJ5dI_wky9XZPbA' class='b-hbp-video b-uploaded' frameborder='0'></iframe></div><u><br />
</u><br />
<br />
By doing several Google searches on How To Do Homemade Zombie Make Up. Alot of the materials that are not essential are expensive, however the essential stuff can be found at home or at a cheap costume shop or pharmacy. <br />
<div style="text-align: justify;">Tas researched about the zombie looks that are most popular, most of them take a lot of work and are very very detailed. Thankfully it is also a comedy alot like "Shawn of the dead" so although we want the zombies to look as real as possible, it can be done in a cliche tongue-in-cheek sort of style. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7XMJVJD2bVv2JOPCypwLXQ453c0p6oLLW5P7gFKPlXiKY8hyrUQ_h-rHF30fLfXY_GBOCPCQfxfRbcqxHDAU0uzwHsUw-YIOcF2rteMoVgLh7MOODiMZHFfTiupBrbmn0yL_arRS3W-eI/s1600/fake+blood.gif" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEg7XMJVJD2bVv2JOPCypwLXQ453c0p6oLLW5P7gFKPlXiKY8hyrUQ_h-rHF30fLfXY_GBOCPCQfxfRbcqxHDAU0uzwHsUw-YIOcF2rteMoVgLh7MOODiMZHFfTiupBrbmn0yL_arRS3W-eI/s1600/fake+blood.gif" /></a></div>Materials: toilet paper, A basic multi-color make-up kit ( grey eye shadow and red lipstick ), and of coarse white face cream this is going to be the base of almost any movie make-up. It's like primer for effect. White face paint.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">How we will apply the face makeup for our Zombies: first we will put toilet paper and paint it down with white face paint but leave some loose bits to create a ripped-skin effect which we will colour in with reds and black makeup powder, and put darker effect of powder around the mouth and eyes then put the red, grey and black around teh eyes and lips.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">I also came up with the idea of using plastic bags that we can stick on to the face that can then be ripped to look like ripping skin. We will have to make a trip to the costume shop we will need hair spray or grease and some old clothes that can be ripped up and have paint and baked beans on them to create a lobbdy, gutsy effect.<br />
<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"><u>HOW WE DID IT ON THE DAY:</u></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">In actual fact, we did the make up slightly differently on the day of filming. One of our actors had in fact done a stage make up course and showed us the best way to achieve a zombie effect using minimal make up.</div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">First, we used the white face paint as a thin, patchy base layer, forgetting the tissue entirely. We then added lots of black make up in the eye sockets and under the cheek bones to hollow out the zombies faces. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEdAIWCZnsl1iugSmbqs4d2cIOrIFIP_HE1W6xB_ll26KLgM-JMGobvyCHRIQ5MTZBCYvQMMDlAf7q44Rgog9NMGEL0tn1v8UTL1PfRM1tjewXvqHAUSruH2X9YDIkG_qCkVvgcdy6QcSu/s1600/zombie+make+up+2.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="150" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgEdAIWCZnsl1iugSmbqs4d2cIOrIFIP_HE1W6xB_ll26KLgM-JMGobvyCHRIQ5MTZBCYvQMMDlAf7q44Rgog9NMGEL0tn1v8UTL1PfRM1tjewXvqHAUSruH2X9YDIkG_qCkVvgcdy6QcSu/s200/zombie+make+up+2.jpg" width="200" /></a></div><br />
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLZDOUE78-htfs37y9liaFYiYnG5t5ZWUJMFejNBonLI2yo1zjB0jU-esQ6M_ArGGMuBrrRVcJ2cI1PgGPkMSRWP1xRggIPpYENCckK41zpBwvt8WlCrHEDDXOiG-MRXMo97DHxXCyzIZg/s1600/zombie+make+up+3.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLZDOUE78-htfs37y9liaFYiYnG5t5ZWUJMFejNBonLI2yo1zjB0jU-esQ6M_ArGGMuBrrRVcJ2cI1PgGPkMSRWP1xRggIPpYENCckK41zpBwvt8WlCrHEDDXOiG-MRXMo97DHxXCyzIZg/s320/zombie+make+up+3.jpg" width="320" /></a><br />
<br />
<br />
</div><div style="text-align: justify;">Ernie was in charge of hair and he used a combination of back combing and hair wax to give the zombies an unkempt and messy look. He then sprayed green and grey hair spray in patches to make it look dirty. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">We then applied minimal fake blood on the face so that there was a definite difference when it came to them eating the human. We had lots of red poster paint and a can of baked beans that we threw at them in various amounts so that they each had a unique, bloody costume. </div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;"></div><div style="text-align: justify;">By doing the make up, hair and costumes in this way we managed to achieve a very effective, obvious zombie using minimal materials.<br />
