Meeting 22.10.11

So today my group and I met up to discuss the filming of our Movie Opening tomorrow.

We first talked about the angle of our opening:
  • We want to do a comedy zombie film because it is an easier angle than trying to make a zombie film serious.
  • We are aiming our film at teenagers and young people because this way we can do it from our own experience as we know what they will find entertaining.

  • We then thought of a couple of zombie films that we can analyse that fit this criteria and came up with two - Shaun Of The Dead and Zombieland.
  • These are two films that are completely different interpretations of the genre. SOTD is very traditional compared with Zombieland - for the most part it sticks with the zombie film guidlines first set out by George A Romero.

  • On the other hand, Zombieland is very much of the new generation, breaking most of these rules and coming up with a relatively different and fresh twist on the general zombie plot.

We talked about time management:
  • We decided that it was safest to tell people to be free for Sunday 23rd as well as Monday 24th in case we did not finish filming on the first day.
  • After this we realised that it would be easiest to split it over the 2 days, so we decided that we would film everything else on the first day but leave the fighting shots until the second day to give the actors time to settle into the characters.
  • We decided to meet at 12.00 to give us sufficient time before it got dark to get a good headstart on the filming.
  • The main reason that we wanted to get the filming out of the way was because we knew that all of the actors were free on the days approaching and also because we knew that the weather was going to be nice. Finally, because both Ernie and myself also took art we had a lot of other work to get done so it was easiest to tick this off.
We talked about make up:

  • how we were going to do it.
  • what we still needed which we then purchased.
  • For the zombies:
  • We are going to use face paint and wet tissue on the faces to create a grey, wrinkled effect.
  • We are going to use wax and back-comb the hair  and use hair spray to give the effect of dirtiness.
  • We are going to use baked beans, ketchup and fake blood to give the effect of past meals and injuries.
  • For the humans
  • We are going to also use ketchup and fake blood on the clothes
  • We are going to use stuffed tights as guts
  • We are going to back-comb the hair to make it look a little more messy.

We talked about casting:
  • who else would be willing and able to act tomorrow as we didn't have enough people.
  • who were going to be zombies and who were going to be humans.
  • Vikki, Micky, Ernie, Charneh and Em are going to be the zombies
  • Cameron and Sarah are going to be the humans

We talked about our filming location:
  • We knew it had to be somewhere that we could film inside a house as well because of the first shot of the television.
  • We wanted it to be somewhere quiet so that we had as few passers by as possible.
  • We wanted it to be a general city scape so that people couldn't necessarily place it.
  • After this we phoned around our actors and asked if we would be allowed to film in their houses.
  • We decided on Water Ways around the home of Mickey Fernandes, one of our zombies.
  • We popped over and did a quick recce of the streets around to find some nice shots that we could use, I have posted them below.

We talked about things still to do:
  • Make the wolf footage to be played on the television at the beginning of the opening (see below)
  • What our production company was going to be called - TEE Productions
  • When and where we are going to meet.

Later today, I put together this montage of the Wolves and we will add in the narration post production. It will play on a loop on a DVD while I collect the footage we need.

I feel that now we are all set to film tomorrow, we are all very excited as we have absolutely no idea how this is going to turn out.
